Lake Jeanette's story began in the late 1800's when members of the prominent Cone family purchased 2,142 acres of land from the NC Steel and Iron Company. They began building Lake Jeanette in 1940 to accommodate their need for water, for the production of denim at the textile plants.
Residential development began on Regents Park Lane in the late 1980's under a subsidiary company called Cornwallis Development. In 1992, the City of Greensboro approved the unified development plan for 750 acres. The first house was built in 1993 in Southern Shores. In 1998, Northern Shores was one of the final phases to open.
